A talk on Eastern Europe
At 7:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 8, at the Gay St. Theater, John W. Kiser III, author of the recently published “Communist Entrepreneurs”and a frequent traveler on business in Eastern Europe and the USSR, will speak on “The Opening of the Eastern Block - Socialism in Disintegration or Renewal?” The lecture and discussion following is free and open to the public, sponsored by RAAC and the Rappahannock County Public Library.
Holiday giveaway planned
There will be a toys-and-clothes giveaway, 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 16, at the Washington Fire Hall. Santa will be there at 1 p.m. to help distribute the goods. If you have donations of useable clothes, toys and household items, please leave them in the boxes at the Washington and Flint Hill fire halls. Sunday Dreamers to perform
Sunday Dreamers, a new performance group, will present works in progress, 8 p.m., Friday, Dec. 8, at Washington’s Town Hall. The group consists of Catherine Kiley, Tutt Stapp-Harris and Linda Orfila. Admission is $4 for adults and $2.50 for students and senior citizens.
Santa to appear in Castleton
Santa Claus will make an appearance at the Castleton firehouse, 2 p.m.-4 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 10. “Come out and have cookies and punch with Santa, and most of all don’t forget your wish list,” said an organizer.
Landscape show at gallery

Art, classes at Middle St.
The “Art for Gifts” show at Washington’s Middle St. Gallery will run through Dec. 31. Original art gifts for children and adults are available from which to choose. Gallery hours are 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Friday through Sunday; 9 a.m.-noon, Mondays and Wednesdays; and any other time by appointment, 703-675-3440. The gallery will be the site of two workshops this month. From 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday, Dec: 16, Janet Kerig will instruct a class on wreath-making. The fee is $46; which includes materials. Dancing Reed will lead a class on the Medicine Wheel, 6:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 12. The fee of $25 includes materials. Yoga master to lecture
Pundit Ravi Shankar will visit Washington, Virginia on Monday, Dec. 11.
