A homeowner farther away than that would have to pay by the foot for the additional distance. “We don’t look to make money on installation; we want to get the services in the homes and keep them there,” he said.
Mr. Price said a short time ago the company required 35 to 40 houses per mile to offer cable service, but new technology made it possible to extend service to areas with as few as 15 homes per mile. He said he had checked out the Amissville area and found only 10 to 11 houses per mile.
“Our population is greater than any other district,” Col. Bingham said. “I do not believe in second class citizens. I wouldn’t consider it until you ran the line down to Amissville. We shouldn’t even allow you over the Gap until you can at least give the people of Amissville a chance.”
Mr. Massie asked if it wouldn’t be cheaper to service Amissville by extending service from Warrenton.
