David Huff has taken on a new . venture — and he admits at first he was a little scared.
A Rappahannock native, Mr. Huff traded in his apron at Country Manor’s Hazel Mountain Pub for the proprietor’s cap of the new Country Cafe.
“It was really hard to leave the Manor,” Huff said, sitting in his restaurant in Washington, located on Main Street next to the Post Office.
The tiny one-room cafe is filled with lingering late-aftemoon guests. Mr. Huff, wearing a white apron, hussels between the kitchen, the phone and the dining room, as his duties take him from greeting guests to preparing food and ordering supplies.
As things settle down, he takes a break with a large iced tea. “It was almost like family with the Swindlers. It was hard to leave such a secure job and take a chance on this place,” he said of his seven and onehalf years of work at the Country Manor in Sperryville.
