farmers who own their own land and who are skilled. There is a tradition of pork and poultry production, and good. breeding stocks are present. The Polish people are hard-working, patient and persevering. There is wide international interest in helping economic development in Poland, but the assistance needs to be coordinated and planned so that it occurs in a timely, rational and significant way, Mr. Dietel stressed.

Mr. Dietel discussed and answered questions, dealing also with topics including the effects on agriculture of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, other pollution, population stabilization and education.
