voted “aye.” Col. Bingham cast the lone vote against the proposal, and Hampton District representative Mike Massie abstained.
The supervisors next considered a request by Adelphia Cable Communications to apply for a franchise to extend service from Front Royal, where the company operates a cable TV system, across the mountain to Chester Gap, Flint Hill, Washington and Sperryville.
Joseph Price, Virginia regional manager, told the supervisors that with the use of fiber-optic technology, Adelphia would be able to extend its service into Rappahannock without having to construct any antenna towers in the county. Mr. Price said that in Front Royal the company offers 30 channels in the base package. The movie channels, Disney channel apd Home Team Sports cost extra.
He said that Rappahannock subscribers would be offered the same service as Front Royal customers but at $2 to $2.50 extra. As more channels are added in Front Royal, they would be available in Rappahannock also, he said.
