Spirit of cooperation
On Monday morning, an incident happened which points » up the volunteer spirit and community service which sets our ' county apart.
Members of the Amissville Volunteer Fire Department had just completed a rescue call, delivering a patient to the * Emergency Department at Culpeper Memorial Hospital.
Meanwhile, the volunteers in Culpeper County were swamped with two medical emergencies and an auto accident, all of which happened within 10 minutes.
The Amissville volunteers, realizing their Culpeper comrades might need some help, called the dispatcher and offered to take one of the calls, relieving some of the burden.
They could have just gone on back to their station. They had no duty or responsibility to assist in that area.
But they didn’t. Because of their extra effort, a patient in need of care probably got needed medical attention a few minutes sooner.
That’s the kind of community spirit President Bush had in mind when he spoke of “a thousand points of light.” Those volunteers represent one of those points.
