The state cut its contribution during the year. The cut was first taken from the fund to buy books, but when librarian Diane Green re-, signed, the cut was taken from salaries and more money was available to buy books.
Dr. Young said the new library was expected to cost $590,000, including architects’ fees, but not including a circulation desk, tables and chairs or seating for the multi-purpose room. He said that of that amount, $575,000 had been raised or was in firm pledges.
“We’re very close to the total amount, and there are more promises and semi-promises,” Dr. Young said. “Financially we’re OK.”
The board voted to give member Grace Sims leeway in deciding how much of the shelving to order now. A total of $47,489 has been included for shelving in the $590,000. - V
“The only reason for going ahead with it now is to make sure it all matches,” Dr. Young said.
Board member Mary Jamieson noted that the whole shelving order would cover a 50 percent expansion of the collection. “It will take years to get all those books,” she added.
The board also voted to advertise for a new librarian and to let MrsSims decide what papers to buy ads in and how much to spend. ;
