Ellen Jenkins Brown, 84, of Mountain View Nursing Home in Aroda, formerly of Culpeper, died Friday, March 8 at the nursing home following a long illness.

Mrs. Brown was bom Dec. 20, 1906 in Rappahannock County, the daughter of the late Conner Holtzman and Susan Catherine Dodson Jenkins. She was married to the late James Thomas Brown.

Mrs. Brown was a member of the Culpeper Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She also taught school in Greene and Culpeper counties.

Survivors include four daughters, Carolyn Harding and Kathryn Leavell, both of Culpeper, Mary Jo Hedrick of Charlottesville and Bonnie Sue Thomasson of o *ffner, Fla.; two sisters, Katherine Canfield of Victoria and Audrey Fielding of Bealeton; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by four sisters, Margaret Hoffman Kennedy, Sue Brault Ellington, Mary Rosebud Matacia and Hattie Elizabeth Jenkins.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 11 at Culpeper Baptist Church with Dr. H.O. Browning and Rev. John S. Farrar officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Brown’s grandsons served as pallbearers.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Culpeper Baptist Church.

Clore Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Roger Whitmer Sr.

Roger Dale Whitmer Sr., 47, of Bluemont, died Sunday, March 10 in the Winchester Medical Center.

The funeral was conducted Tuesday, March 12 at the Enders Funeral Home in Berryville by the Rev. Curtis Palmer. Burial was in Green Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Whitmer was bom Oct. 13, 1943, in Charlottesville, the son of the late Jake and Katie Lamb Whitmer. He was a mechanic for Valley Proteins Inc. and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

Surviving are his wife, Judy Mae Maynard Whitmer; a son, Roger Dale Whitmer Jr. of Winchester;
