dated services and raise a large sum of money to pay off debt accrued by the former chapter. The chapter must reorganize by June, or moves will be made to dissolve it and to consolidate it with other area chapters.
“The idea of consolidating some chapters [such as Rappahannock’s] is a mistake. We have great pride in this county . . . we shouldn’t let this chapter fade away,” said Mrs. Leas. “People won’t want to contribute as much if it becomes a satellite office. We need to get more young or retired people who are interested in getting involved,” said Mrs. Leas.
The Red Cross has the support of some area businesses as well. Napoleon’s restaurannt in Warrenton hosted a “Victory Party” Tuesday evening, March 5.
‘We wanted to honor the troops for a job well done and make it a fundraisers for the Red Cross,” said restaurant owner Phil Harway. “We want to stay active with the Red Cross. And there are so many organizations in the county that can use the support.”
Though the RappahannockFauquier chapter is not opened, the money raised will be put into a special account for Red Cross services rendered in the county, according to Harway.
Napoleon’s matched the “several hundred” dollars raised during the evening.
