Tanya Richey says she is a product of the “great American adult education system.”
Her Windflower Fine Art Gallery in the Clopton House on Main Street in Washington is proof she did her homework.
Oils, watercolors, familiar Rappahannock scenes and scenes from the Old World line the plain Clopton House walls now as her gallery takes shape and develops over the first ‘ year of its existeance.
It’s not the soft pastels of watercolors or the sharp distinction of oil that catches the attention. It’s the feeling that you’ve seen it once before — like the cottages at Massie’s Comer or the sunset over Venice.
She says she paints in “response to the envimoment — urban scenes while in Germany, light and color and landscape in Virginia.”
Whether it’s autumn landscape or a grey-lined city, it catches your attention.
“I started 14te,” Mrs. Richey said -of her art career. Sitting at a glasstopped desk scattered with markers and paints and photographs, Mrs. Richey looks at home in the gallery.
Pieces of artwork — some matted, some framed — are placed on the walls, mantel pieces or rest against chairs, giving the room color and personality.
