Shanks enlists

for Navy duty

Herbert Philip Shanks recently enlisted in the United States Navy for guaranteed training at the Navy’s Yeoman “A” School. .Mr. Shanks, the son of Barbara L. Shanks of Washington, is a 1990 graduate of Rappahannock High School. Enlisting under the Delayed Entry Program, he will report to Recruit Training Center Orlando, Florida for active duty, where he will undergo basic training.

Following basic training, Mr. Shanks will begin eight weeks of schooling at Orlando, FI., in the clerical field. Yeomen perform secretarial and clerical work. They deal with visitors, telephone calls, and incoming mail. They organize files, operate duplicating equipment, and order and distribute supplies. They write and type business and social letters, notices, directives, forms, and reports. They also maintain files and officer service records.
