Area residents who are interested in restarting the FauquierRappahannock Red Cross chapter said they are one step closer after last Tuesday’s public meeting at Airlie in Warrenton.
National and area Red Cross representatives met with more than 50 people concerned with organization’s fate to discuss reforming the chapter.
The chapter’s board voted to close the doors last December when it had a shortage of volunteers and revenue, making it difficult to keep the chapter going.
“Those who attended the meeting were enthusiastic,” said Louise Strother Leas of Delaplane, a volunteer working to restart the 75-year-old chapter. “Almost^all signed cards committing to serve as volunteers and on an interim board.”
The interim board, comprised of 13 residents, will hold its first meeting at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 16, at the Red Cross office, South Third Street, Warrenton. Interested persons are urged to attend.
Currently, the Prince William chapter has taken over Fauquier’s and Rappahannock’s mandated services; 24-hour disaster relief assistance, and service to military families.
