Then, a week later, a plain white envelope, postmarked Front Royal, came in the mail containing the entire sum and a note: “I found your money in the trash. I wanted to keep it, but it’s not mine. I was looking for cans and found money. I saw your name on the letter and knew whose it was. I’m sorry I didn’t give it back before. [Signed,] Jim.”
