Rappahannock’s Girl Scouts have been involved in a variety of activities as part of a national program called “Right to Read.”
This spring girls from the high school have been going to the elementary school for one period a week to work with kindergarteners, first graders and second graders.
The program was arranged by Susan Fox, the county’s dropout prevention coordinator. The girls go to classrooms in pairs and stay with the same classroom.
They read to the younger students, listen to the younger students read and help some who are having trouble.
“It seems to help the kids, the teachers enjoy it, and we eiyoy it,” teacher Alice Reeve said. “The kids get more individual attention.”
