Stonewall-Hawthom representative Robert Anderson countered, “It is something the accountant said should be done. A different Library Board could sell off these assets and not go through the Board of Supervisors.”
Mr. Massie said, “The assets of the library are public assets, and the only person in the county bonded to handle them is the treasurer.”
After the work on the budget was completed, Mr. Cox suggested that with the projected surplus, the supervisors could cut the tax rate by five cents.
He said that adding $330,000 to the existing general fund surplus would mean that the county was holding a surplus equal to 20 percent of the budget.
