Ruth Gertrude Hockman Owings Posey, 89, of Madison, died Tuesday, May 28 at the home of her granddaughter in Chantilly.
She was bom May 16, 1902 in Shenandoah County. She was the daughter of the late Gertrude Keturah Hite and Albert Henry Hockman.
She is survived by one son, William Rapley Owings III of Madison, formerly of Rappahannock; four grandchildren, Jock Rapley Owings of Pittsylvania County, Lark Owings Muncy of Chantilly; Matthew Staige Owings and Michael Fitzgerald Owings, both of Madison; three greatgrandchildren, Ross Arnold Smith of Chantilly, Molly Jeanette Owings and John Reed Owings, both of Pittsylvania County; and two brothers, Owen Franklin Hockman of Culpeper and John Hite Hockman of Vienna. She was preceded in death by two husbands, William Rapley Owings II and Arthur Percival Posey; a sister, May Hockman McDonaugh; and a brother, Henry Staige Hockman.
She was a member of the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church of Haywood. Memorial services were held Sunday, June 2 at the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with the Rev. Gordon George officiating. Interment was private.
