Temperatures climb
into the upper 90s

Thursday, toward the end of the first lunch shift at the high school, most of the students in that lunch shift left the building and sat down in bright sunlight on the lawn in front of the building.
Students on the second lunch shift were still in their fourth period classes.
Senior class president Matt Eidson said the students would stay outside until the air-conditioning in the school’s main office, guidance office and the central administration office was turned off.
High school Principal John Toth said to Mr. Eidson and those gathered around him, “While you are out of class, there will be things going on, and you won’t be allowed to make up the work.”
He asked why the students hadn’t brought their complaints to him earlier, instead of walking out. “No one said a word to me about air-conditioning in other parts of the building,” he said. “This is the first time I’ve
