Girl Scouts in the upper elementary grades have written and illustrated stories, bound them into books, and given them to kindergarten-aged Girl Scouts, Cindy Andreoni, the leader of that group, said.
They have also explored different types of poetry, written their own Haiku poems and held a Japanese festival.
Mrs. Andreoni said her girls also made word-rhyming carousels for the kindergarten classes and held a reading marathon, with each girl reading 25 books.
Girls in fourth and fifth grades in a troop led by Sarah Brown wrote letters to soldiers stationed in Saudi Arabia. They also collected books and magazines to send there. They had a meeting to exchange their favorite books and magazines.
Third- and fourth-grade girls in Janet Smoot’s troop collected books to donate to the Child Care and Learning Center. They also had a special meeting with younger children as invited guests.
