1 Mr. Call said as spring approaches the phone calls begin. People from as near as Amissville and as far as D.C. or Maryland want to know what’s ripe and ready for harvest.

This year, farmers foresee a healthy harvest not only for fruits like peaches and apples but for berries and later summer crops. “We’ve had some out picking strawberries, already,” Mr. Hall said two weeks ago, although most strawberries are past by now. His 26-acre farm offers the selected picker everything from bedding plants to fresh peaches, from strawoerries to cucumbers, and from Christmas trees to ,?rapes. “I call it ‘farms’ because I have so many different farms here,” Mr. Hall explained.
