Leonard “Bill” Bailey, 62, recently returned to Amissville from the state of Washington to search for his roots. He moved to Washington in 1952. He was known as Leonard as a child; he goes by Bill now.
One of six children bom to Ella Clatterbuck and Richard Bailey, Bill says he lived in several different homes in the Amissville area following the death of his mother during childbirth in 1933. They were living in Sperryville at the time but visited Ainissville frequently.
On May 15, 1991 Bill and Lois Bailey, along with his brother Cleveland, showed up at the home of Cathy and Carrington Smith on Routes 639 and 730, looking for the old house in which Bill lived when he stayed with the Jim Lathams at about age five or six.
