1944 of Virginia Polytechnic Institute. He graduated in 1946 after serving in the U.S. Air Force dining World War II. While attending V.P.I. he was a member of the Alpha Kappa Phi business fatemity.

On his return to Madison, he joined the Graves family in orchard and farming operations. He served terms on the Virginia State Apple Commission. He was a member of the Virginia State Apple Board, serving as president for one term, a member of the Virginia State Horticulture Society, a member of the Shen-Valley Meat Packers Board and served two terms as president. He also served on the Central Board of the Jefferson National Bank and was a member of the Lynn Banks Lodge #126 in Madison.

He was a life member of Hebron Lutheran Church where he served as trustee and several terms on church council. He served six terms on the Virginia Lutheran Family Services Board in Roanoke. Mr. Graves also served as a member of the Board of Directors of Luther Crest Manor, a retirement home in New Market.

He is survived by his wife, Kennon Smith Graves; a brother, Richard R. Graves; his daughter, Anne Graves Foster; a son-in-law, W. Jqe Foster; and three grandchildren, Ellen Foster, Sarah Foster and Rebecca Foster.

He was predeceased by Ellen McMullan Graves; a twin brother, Thomas Irvin Graves and another brother, William Miller Graves.

Funeral services were held at Hebron Lutheran Church Thursday, May 30 with the Rev. James E. Bassler officiating, assisted by Rev. James Christopher Price. Interment was in Hebron Lutheran Church cemetery.

Pallbearers were M. McMullan Willis, William Kennon Jeffries, Thomas M. Jeffries, H.R. Hithchcock, W.R. Russell, J. Charleton Graves, James Irvin Graves, H. Franklin Graves and Robert H. Willis.
