The Fauquier Republican Party plans to field a candidate for the 31st District seat of the House of Delegates, said committee leader Betty Quigley, but has not yet made its' choice. “

“I believe that we will field a del- - egate for the new legislative seat,”" said Mrs. Quigley.

The state redistricting process" yielded a district that includes al- ’ most all of Fauquier County, which» for 10 years has been split among: three House Districts.

Mrs. Quigley said that the local' GOP currently has three possible' candidates for the newly created' House District, which includes all of Fauquier County, with the excep-. tion of The Plains and Rectortown,'1 plus Rappahannock County and four" precincts in Warren County.

The Republican choice likely will challenge Democrat Jerry Wood,1’ owner of Fauquier Pharmacy in Warrenton. Mr. Wood, who has sai4for years that he would run in a district with a majority in Fauquier;1 announced his intentions shortly afi" ter the redistricting plan was approved by the Virginia General Assembly. Republican party, said Mrs:' Quigley, is concentrating on recruiting candidates for the House of Dele-" gates.

“It is important to have a Republican, but I want someone who can take the time to do the job and wants to do it,” said Mrs. Quigley. “Inother words, I’m not going to talk' someone into it. If anybody who’s a good candidate wants to get in touch1' with me, I’m certainly not against^ running a candidate in any district. ”

She said, however, that she will' not run a candidate “just to fill the* spot.”

“You lose voters’ confidence if you do that,” she said. -i

Mrs. Quigley said she is most -; anxious to select a candidate for the ‘ state legislature. * <

The party has until June 29 to de** cide whether it will hold a primary.
