The Rappahannock-Rapidan Planning District Commission shall hold a Public Hearing on the Commonwealth of Virginia’s mandated Integrated Solid Waste Management/Recycling Plan for this areas ! Designated Area. The PD-9 Designated Area includes the counties of Fauquier, Madison, Orange and Rappahannock and the Towns of ; Gordonsville, Madison, Orange, Remington, The Plains, Warrenton and Washington. The Commission’s Public Hearing shall be held at '• 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 27 in the Culpeper County Board of Supervisors meeting room, 135 West Cameron St., Culpeper, Va. to re- , ceive citizen/public comment. Persons interested in commenting on the ; plan are encouraged to attend the meeting. The plan may be reviewed at the office of the Rappahannock-Rapidan Planning District Commission, 215 Waters Place, Culpeper, Va. from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday.

Amissville carnival planned

The Amissville Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual carnival June 26-29. The parade will begin at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 27. Anyone wishing to make an entry in the parade or anyone willing to help should contact Sheila Scott at 937-4357.

4-H camp

The county Extension office is accepting registrations for the 4-H Overnight Camp schedule for July 7-11. The camp will be held at the Northern Virginia 4-H Center located outside Front Royal and will include educational workshops, swimming, and other recreational activities. The Overnight Camp is for youngsters ages 9-13. The cost is $80. Reservations must be made by June 15. Forty spaces are available, „ and registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Forms are avaiable at the Extension office.

Class reunion planned

The Culpeper County High School class of 1971 will hold it’s 20th year reunion on Saturday, June 29 at the Holiday Inn, Culpeper. Fourth of July celebration

Great Meadow will host a powerful new 4th of July celebration this year with a special theme based on celebration of the Bicentennial of the American Bill of Rights.

After high praise for its spectacular fireworks display here last year, the 200-year-old French pyrotechnics designer Ruggieri has again been selected to stage the fireworks, including a special surprise re-creation from Operation Desert Storm.

A number of special events are planned, including national champion stunt pilot Earl Andrews, who will perform over Great Meadow in his 400-mph Pitt Special.

A jousting tournament, jugglers and strolling minstrels will entertain arrivals, together with relay and sack races for small children. Food services will be available. Gates open at 5 p.m. and fireworks will begin at dark. !

Advance tickets will go on sale at area outlets in June. Watch the j Fauquier Times-Democrat, sponsor of the event, for location of ticket ; outlets. Great Meadow is located between The Plains and Warrenton near 1-66, a short drive from Rappahannock County.

Antique show and sale

The Shenandoah Valley Antique Show and Sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 22 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 23. at the Hugh Saum building, downtown Main St. in ; Edinburg. There will be a $2 admission charge. For further information call 703-984-8521. 1

Craft show planned

The Culpeper Extension Homemakers will hold their 20th Annual ; | craft show on Saturday, Oct. 5. Since the show is held inside the |] Homemakers Building it will be held rain or shine from 9 a.m. to 3 »■ p.m. at the Culpeper Ag. Enterprise grounds Rt. 29 S., Culpeper. ! Spaces are available to Culpeper and surrounding areas crafters. The | large building, ample parking, rest rooms, and all day snack bar make ! it an ideal spot to display and sell crafts. Sierra Club to meet

Alexander Rives, of the Shenandoah National Park headquarters staff, will talk about what’s clouding the world famous views from the overlooks along the Skyline Drive when he speaks to the Sierra Club’s Piedmont Group at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, at the Precious Blood Catholic Church, North Main St., Culpeper.

There is no charge and the public is invited to attend.

The evening will also include a presentation on Sierra’s accomplishments since its founding in 1892 and its plans for protecting the environment in the years to come.

The Piedmont Group’s membership covers Albemarle, Culpeper, Greene, Madison, Orange and Rappahannock counties.
