Programs helping Virginians to have safe drinking water in Page and Rappahannock counties were singled out for praise at the annual meeting of the Conference of Extension Professional Associations last week.

Receiving awards from the Virginia chapter of Epsilon Sigma Phi, national Extension honorary, were nine members of the 1990 water quality program team, including Tommy Williams and Helen Smith, extension agents in Rappahannock County.

The water team educated rural homeowners on preventing and correcting problems in their private water supplies and added to the state’s data on groundwater contamination.
