McNear drops
from state race

Arundel Newspapers Staff Writer
Sperryville resident Richard McNear, who last week sought Republican backing for a bid for the House of Delegates in the 31st District, backed out Monday, leaving former businessman Robert Darby of Woodville as the sole Republican hopeful.
Mr. McNear, who never formally entered the race, announced his decision to quit on the steps of the Fauquier Courthouse saying, “Primary to my decision was what I felt to be a lack of sufficiently strong (Republican) committee, not public, support at this time; particularly in Rappahannock.”
