When Diane Bruce was appointed to fill the unexpired term of former Circuit Court clerk Ned Jones 14 years ago, the office was much different.
Now facing her third election with no opposition, Ms. Bruce points with pride to accomplishments she and her deputy clerks have achieved in the years since.
One of the first projects, which had been planned during Mr. Jones’ tenure, was to move from what is now the Commissioner of the Revenue’s building on Gay Street to a new, larger office between the courthouse and the jail.
Perhaps of greater importance to the job was the gradual computerization that the office has undergone in recent years. By a combination of budget thrift, personal expense and state funding, Ms. Bruce has been able to index the deeds and record
