Kenneth Warren “Kenny” Allison, 36, of,Marshall, was sentenced to 30 years in prison during a hearing in U.S. District Court in Alexandria last Friday. There is no parole in the federal system, so even with time off for good behavior Allison will be in jail for more than 25 years, according to Assistant U.S. Attorney Jay Apperson.
Allison pleaded guilty in April to conspiracy to distribute five or more kilograms of cocaine. He was also found guilty, by a jury, of nine counts of money laundering and pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The major charge he had been indicted for, operating a continuing criminal enterprise employing five or more persons, was thrown out during the April trial by Judge Claude M. Hilton, who also sentenced Allison last week.
Allison’s attorney, Jonathan Shapiro, said Monday he expects to apl>eal the 360-month sentence as well as the money-laundering convictions. Mr. Shapiro criticized the judge’s sentence as too tough.
“A 30-year sentence for what was at most a 15-kilogram drug conspiracy; it’s got no relation to reality,” said Mr. Shapiro. He pointed out that Allison’s brother Jerry Douglas Allison, who admitted to selling cocaine and testified against Kenny Allison, was sentenced to only 18 months.
