From Sunday, July 7 to Saturday, July 13, Rappahannock Boy Scout Troop 36 camped out at Camp Rock Enon for a week full of fun and adventure.
Camp Rock Enon, located near Gore, Va., is the home of Boy Scout activities all summer long. The camp has everything from rock climbing facilities to a lake with swimming areas and canoes. It has its own dining hall to serve 350 people. The Scouts and their Scoutmasters are quartered in two-man tents, which are scattered throughout 15 campsites.
Participating in camp from Troop 36 were Jennings Carney, Van Carney, Jim Clark, Jennings Hobson, Mark Jenkins and Christian Phillips.
During camp, numerous Merit Badge classes are offered. Merit Badges are given to Scouts when they prove they are competent in areas such as first aid, lifesaving, canoeing, pioneering, nature, fish and wildlife management, swimming, archery, and more. Throughout the week, a Scout usually earns between one and five Merit Badges.
The highlight of the week was probably Friday night’s “tap-out” ceremony for Order of the Arrow. Order of the Arrow (O.A.) is a oncein-a-lifetime award given to a small number of Scouts who show that they are willing to give the extra effort to be outstanding campers.
