Music, food, and children’s games are among the evening’s attractions before the fireworks are shot off over the pond at Avon Hall in Washington this Sunday, July 28.
The celebration coincides with the town’s 242nd birthday. The fireworks were supposed to be launched at the town’s annual Fourth of July party, but were rained out. Organizers of Sunday’s fireworks said an observance of the town’s birthday may t become a regular event if attendance warrants it.
The entertainment starts at 5 p.m. with old-time games and relay races for children of all ages. The Washington Volunteer Fire Department will be selling a variety of foods, from pork barbecue to comon-the-cob.
The popular Rappahannockbased country band Cross Country will perform at the pond, starting at 5 p.m.
Veterans of the Desert Storm campaign from Rappahannock will also be honored in a ceremony preceding the fireworks.
