The Washington Planning Commission voted to give preliminary approval to a subdivision of land owned by the Rappahannock Citizens League Monday evening.
The 3.9-acre property owned by the citizens league straddles the town-county boundary along the east side of the Fodderstack Road. Approximately 1.87 acres are in the county, and 2.07 acres are in the town.
Lewis Butler, representing the citizens’ league, said the league was not interested in having the towncounty boundary adjusted to include all their land, and preferred to leave the 1.8-acre piece in the county. That part of the property contains a building that has been used for community meetings and dances.
The league had proposed two possible divisions of the slightly more than two acres in town. Under one proposal it would be divided into two pieces, each slightly over one acre. The other proposal was for a three-way division, one .58-acre parcel nearest the community center property to be kept for parking cars for the First Baptist Church across the road, one one-acre parcel next to it, and a long .46-acre strip, 50 feet wide on the southernmost portion of the property.
At Monday’s meeting, surveyor John Baumgardner said the league had decided on a third division, one that would combine the strip parcel with the one-acre parcel, creating a 1.46-acre parcel and the other of .58 acre.
