New library
visited by 800
since opening

Patrons are flocking to the new library, librarian Nikki Lynch reported.
Mrs. Lynch told the Library Board at its meeting last Thursday that 800 people have visited the library since it opened. So far this July 121 books per day are checked out, compared to 88 per day last July.
Six new volunteers are helping out at the library, and the board authorized Mrs. Lynch to hire one of them, Betta Sarkhash, to work on Saturdays, assisting Grace Sims and Kathy Knuepfer, who volunteer on alternate Saturday mornings.
Roberta Anderson, who helped coordinate between the board and the contractor during construction, reported that the major problem remaining is that the meeting room in the basement that is supposed to be used by the literacy volunteers for tutoring has a wet spot in one comer on the floor. She said that there is a wall of rocks outside the basement ■wall, and she is concerned that the «wall may be next to a spring.
The literacy volunteers have not *been able to finish and use the room “and are waiting until the water problem is solved. They have been using 2the community room for their Monday evening meetings. "» Mrs. Anderson also reported that she was continuing to look into ways to handle outside lighting ‘‘when the library is being used at 'night. The lighting now is too bright, especially for cars westbound on U.S.211.
The board decided to establish a ‘^policy of making the community room available to outside groups, but not on a weekly basis, except for the literacy volunteers.
The lobby will also be available for exhibits, and notices. The board agreed the librarian should have the final authority to decide if a notice was appropriate for display. n The board voted to have the for"mal dedication of the new library at *2 p.m. Sept. 8.
