Landowners will be getting notices of their new assessments next week, and overall they will show an increase of nearly 48 percent since the 1988 assessment.
The total value of taxable land and buildings in Rappahannock according to the new assessment is almost $750 million. The current assessment is just under $508 million.
The value of land has increased more than the value of buildings. According to figures provided by Blue Ridge Appraisers, the Staunton company that is doing the reassessment for the county, land values have gone from $305.5 million in 1988 to $470.2 million this year, nearly a 54 percent increase.
