Miss Lisa Ann Wharton and Mr. James Ronald Dodson were united in marriage on Saturday, Aug. 31, 1991 at Thornton Gap Regular Baptist Church in Sperryville.
The 5 p.m. candlelight double ring ceremony was performed by Rev. Kirby Shenk of Luray.
Pianist was Cathy Frazier of Luray. Bill Helm, also of Luray was soloist and sang “There Is Love” and “Wind Beneath My Wings.”
The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Lee Anna Wharton of Sperryville and the late Mr. Henry Wharton.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Robert Dodson, also of Sperryville.
The bride was given in marriage by her mother and brother, Albert Wharton, who escorted her. She wore a traditional floor length gown of white tissue taffeta, featuring a sweetheart neckline accented in sequins and simulated pearls. The ball gown sleeves were of rolled taffeta lay ere. The fitted bodice was trimmed with matching sequins and pearls like those of the neckline. Her headpiece was a majestic crown of simulated pearls and floral designs. From the headpiece fell a fingertip length veil. She carried a bouquet of silk seafoam green, peach and white roses. Her bouquet was accented with seed pearls and baby’s breath. Her jewerly was a strand of pearls and pearl earrings.
The bride chose Mrs. Penny Donelson, of Sperryville, friend of the bride, to serve as her matron of honor. She was attired in a peach tea-length taffeta grown with a criss-crossed back and a gently scooped neckline, tapered elbow length sleeves which were shirred at the cuff. A bow graced the waistline in the back. Peach satin shoes complimented her gown. She carried a silk bouquet of seafoam green and peach roses accented with baby’s breath and ribbons.
Maid of honor was Miss Angela Jenkins, of Sperryville, friend of the bride. She wore a gown identical to that of the matron of honor. Her bouquet and shoes were also identical.
