While campaigning m Fauquier, Rappahannock and Warren, said Mr. Wood, “I’m hearing people are very concerned with the environment, land use, putting land into agricultural, forestal districts. They’re very concerned there may be some abuses in roll-back (land-use),taxes."
“I’m for impact fees period. Not in good times, not in bad times. Period,” said Mr. Wood. He said he also supports transferable development rights, local option taxes, mass transit and opposes a Western Bypass.
Mr. Wood responded to Mr. Darby’s charge last week that, if Mr. Wood is elected, “the only choice Jerry will have is when (Democratic Majority Leader) Tom Moss tells him how to vote, which hand he will hold up.”
“I am my own man. I have been a party player in a lot of elections,” Mr. Wood said. “Mr. Darby’s credentials in the Republican Party are only about two months old.”
“I have my own mind and I vote my own mind. Nobody is going to tell me how to vote,” said Mr. Wood.
The Wood campaign this week announced endorsements by the Realtors’ Political Action Committee and the formation of “Conservationists for Wood.”
