Amiss vme and Mint Hill remained dry. When water poured in Huntly, Washington yards went untouched. When rain streamed down the hill in Boston or Woodville, Washington and Flint Hill felt nothing.
“We just can’t figure out what that jet stream is doing,” Mr. Wingfield said, adding recently television news has called for severe storm watches promising several inches of rain in the Rappahannock County area though few, if any, raindrops were recorded in reality.
“And, it doesn’t look like we are getting any more rain in September,” he said of his figures.
In the last 60 days, his rain gauge has measured just 2.26 inches of rain—1.18 inches in August and 1.08 inches in September.
For the same two months last year, Mr. Wingfield recorded 8.40 inches of rainfall—4.77 in August and 3.63 in September.
The normal average for the two months is 7.62 inches with August being a wetter month, offering 4.40 inches of rainfall and September being a drier month bearing only 3.22 inches.
Rainfall was low this year from May on through the summer.
