the threat
To the Editor:
Let’s face it: the pleasant, uncomplicated rural way of life we have enjoyed for so long in Rappahannock County is under very real threat from the pressures, stresses and strains of urban sprawl, big city congestion and crime. Those we elect on Nov. 5 must be qualified by education, technical training and leadership to represent us if we are to deal effectively with the ever more complex problems ahead.
Concerned voters of Rappahannock County are invited to the Washington Fire Hall on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 2 p.m. to meet, hear and question candidates we beleive are our best hope for the future in Richmond and Washington. Andy Guest of Front Royal, who formerly represented us in Virginia’s House, will be here to greet old friends.
Our own Bob Darby of Woodville, with the same high qualities of character and integrity as Andy, will tell us why he feels he is the one to replace Andy in Richmond. George Allen of Charlottesville, a thoroughly experienced and, by his record in Richmond, qualified legislator, will seek our votes to replace retiring Rep. D. French Slaughter Jr., in the U.S. House.
We will also hear from state Sen. Kevin Miller, seeking to return to Virginia’s Senate. And, since our county is divided between two state Senatorial districts, Ed Robb of Charlottesville, no relation to the U.S. Senator from Virginia, will seek our support.
There will be lively discussion and debates between the candidates, friends and neighbors. Refreshments will be served. All are invited to come and join the enlightenment, excitement and fun, at no charge.
