Republican rally
The Rappahannock Republican committee would like to invite all county residents to attend a rally from 2-5 p.m. on Oct. 5 at the fire hall in Washington, Va. The purpose of the meeting is to meet Republican candidates for U.S. House of Representatives, Virginia State senate for the 25th and 26th District and the 31st House of Delegate District. Benefit auction
The Castleton Community Volunteer Fire Company will be having an auction on Nov. 15. Donated items may be dropped off at the fire house on Saturdays or call 937-3076, 937-6051 or 937-5614 for pickups.
Shooting match
The Castleton Community Volunteer Fire Department will begin its annual shooting match beginning Oct. 5 and continuing each Saturday until Nov. 16 and will run from 1-4 p.m. Only 12 gauge shotguns with no sleeves and no scopes can be used. Reunion scheduled

Dance at Amissville
The Amissville Volunteer Fire Department will sponsor a dance from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26. The band Tarragon will be featured. Proper dress is required and you must be 21. For more information or reservations call Sheila Scott, 937-4357.
Historic house tour
The Little Fork Church of Rixeyville will be holding a historic house tour from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 5. The theme of the event is “A Walk Through the Ages.” The church and four homes will be on tour. One of the homes is Rose Dale, a gorgeous 3-story frame home built in 1793 and owned by Dr. and Mrs. J.P. Snead IV. An old fashioned lunch of brunswick stew and combread will be served. Also, Colonial dried arrangements, wreaths, baked goods, jellies, jams, pickles, and Little Fork Cookbooks will be for sale in the Little Fork Ordinary. PTO picnic, conference
The Rappahannock Elementary School Parents and Teachers Organization (PTO) is having its “fall picnic and conference” from noon until 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5. Please bring your own picnic lunch, beverages and baked goods will be on sale. “Come get acquainted with other parents and get involved with your school,” said a spokesman.
