Rappahannock County voters turned out in record numbers Tuesday, supporting President Bush and Frank Wolf, both Republicans, by moderate margins.
County voters also gave wide support to the three bond issues on the ballot and favored the proposed constitutional amendment by a two to one margin.
President Bush carried the county with 1,409 of 3,169 votes cast, for 44.5 per cent of the vote. Bill Clinton was favored by 40.2 per cent of the voters with 1,273 votes and Ross Perot received 487 votes for 15.3 per cent.
More than 88 per cent of the registered voters cast their ballots in this election. The county has 3,621 registered voters, more than half of all residents counted in the last census. In all, 2,975 voters went to the polls and another 218 cast absentee ballots. Flint Hill had the highest turnout with 495 of 549 voters marking their ballots, or 90.2 per cent.
