Independent Alan Ogden said that, historically, third-party candidates in Virginia rarely get anything in terms of votes in a three-way race, and he could not be displeased with his showing. However, Ogden only collected 116 votes out of 3,193 ballots cast.
“Clinton is going to be coming in with virtually no mandate at all,” Ogden said, “and if he wants to run this country he is not going to be able to do it by doing the things he has been talking about in the campaign. He is going to have to do it by getting the Federal Reserve bank under control, which is what I have been talking about all along, * he said.
A more important victory toward which he had been worlang, Ogden said, was the defeat of the death penalty referendum in the nation’s canital.
