The Ames stores in Warrenton and Manassas are among 16 statewide slated for closing early next year.
Ames Department Stores Inc., of Rocky Hill, Conn., on Oct. 30 announced the closings of 14 Ames stores and two Crafts & More stores in the state. The closings affects 800 employees statewide.
Locally, Sandra Porubsky, manager of the Ames store in the Warrenton Town Center on Frost Aveune, said, her store “definitely” was one of the 60 from around the country to close.
The Warrenton department store, which opened in 1986, currently employs 51 people. The Manassas store employs 64.
.Both businesses will remain open and fully stocked throughout the Christmas shopping season.
