Ames spokesman Bill Roberts said Monday that the displaced workers will be given a severance package of one to six weeks based upon length of service.
Roberts said the company was closing stores that were “either not contributing enough profit, were not profitable, or were geographicly outside our core market for the future.”
The closings are part of a bankruptcy court reorganization plan and will help finance the company’s reorganization.
A U.S. Bankruptcy Court judge in New York approved a disclosure statement Thursday which included details of the reorganization plan and which must be approved by creditors next month, according to published reports.
