More than 10,000 spectators are expected to be on hand for the twoday event according to a Great Meadow spokesperson. The gates will open at 10 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday with the main battle commencing at 2 p.m. Because of traffic, spectators are advised to be at Great Meadow by noon.
In addition, early visitors will be able to observe a dramatization of a soldier’s amputation by a medical field surgeon.
“Because of the life-like nature of the demonstration, we don’t advise it for everyone to see,” said Major John Sisk of the 8th Virginia Regiment.
The demonstration will be held at 11 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
Admission to the re-enactment which includes the amputation demonstration, self-guided tours of the Confederate and Federal camps and the main battle, is $15 per car load at the gate or $10 in advance.
