Other stores in Virginia to close, in addition to those in Warrenton and Manassas, are those in Gloucester, Newport News, Norfolk, Onley, Richmond, Smith field, Virginia Beach and Williamburg.
The company will keep six stores open Virginia.
Brad Cederahl, of Gates, Hudson & Associates, which manages the Town Centre, said the company had been aware of the Ames’ difficulties and although it hasn’t been formally notified that the store is closing was not surprised by the announcement.
“We have been making contingency plans and are working with several interested prospects,” Cederahl said.
He said the shopping center plans to replace Ames with another “retail” operation, though he would not elaborate on what companies where interested in the space.
