Junior riders Jason Jones and Chris Read of the Casanova Hunt proved their consistency and hunter pace skills over the weekend. The 15-year-olds emerged the winners at both pair races, catapulting them into a first-place position in year-end series.
Ashley Settle and Mandy Elliott followed right on the teenager’s heels, as they placed second in the junior division at both Warrenton and Old Dominion. The Rappahannock Hunt juniors only trail the Casanova Hunt juniors by two points in the year-end series.
“We really didn’t have a strategy — we just let the horses go on,” Jason said after completing Warrenton’s course. Jason piloted Vrolyk, a former carriage horse owned by L. Clay Camp, to the two wins.
“We only slowed up going through the creeks,” added Chris, who rode New Hope Farm’s Diamond Bidder to the blue ribbons.
The next pair race will be hosted by the Casanova Hunt at Mount Sterling Farm April 10.
