Choreographer Sharon Wyrrick of Woodville will present an evening of dance and theater at the Dance Place in Washington D.C. on April 17-18.
She will be joined by three dance groups, including the Last Minute Wood Company of Rappahannock County, Thompson & Trammell of Harrisonburg, and Karen & Alvin of Washington, D.C.
All four works in the two-hour show explore narrative story-telling through the medium of dance theater. Three of the dance pieces were choreographed and produced by Miss Wyrrick within the past two years. The fourth piece, “Ride With the Wind,” is a new, somewhat autobiographical work, in which Miss Wyrrick uses images of riding a swing, a horse, and a car to explore our changing concepts of freedom.
She was raised in Oklahoma and originally planned for a career in graphic arts. She took a dance class while in college just because it was something she had always wanted to do.
“1 got hooked very quickly and went from one class a week to two classes a day, six days a week,” she said in a recent interview.
