the cost of continuing to operate the landfill. He said it was not reasonable to add the entire cost of monitoring the landfill for 20 additional years to the cost of the next cell at the landfill. Col. Luke also said he would oppose closing the dumpster sites and relying on private haulers to handle trash. He said he believes that would lead to illegal dumps all over the county and would amount to “a hidden tax.”
However, Col. Luke said he would not object to closing the dumpster site at Scrabble if one is located between Washington and Sperryville.
Later the board went into executive session to discuss purchasing a site for schools and other public use and to discuss personnel. No action was taken following that executive session.
The board learned that the new state Family Court may require the county to spend more for record storage. Some records that have been handled by Circuit Court and some business of District Court will be transferred to the new Family Court.
