Jennifer Updike
receives honors
Jennifer Updike granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. John B. Updike of Washington was recently elected to membership in the National Honor Society, Phi Kappa Phi at North Carolina State University. The principal objective of Phi Kappa Phi is to recognize and honor outstanding scholarly achievement. Invitation to membership is the highest academic honor offered to students at the school.
Phi Kappa Phi is unique in that it is open to students in all degree programs. Invitations to membership are sent to selected juniors, seniors, and graduate students. To be considered, juniors must be in the top three percent of their class, and seniors in the top six percent. The announcement of this honor came from Dr. Franklin D. Hart, Provost of Academic Affiars.
Updike, a 1990 graduate of Southampton Academy, has completed requirements for a degree in Accounting and has taken the CPA and CMA exams. She will graduate in December with degrees in Accounting, Economics, and Agricultural Business. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn H. Updike, Statesville Rd., Newsoms, Va.
