chers, parents, and siblings were well fed by operating Lizzie’s Cafe. The copy machine in the office was kept busy making sure the judges had copies of the music to be performed.
Students performed for about seven minutes as soloists or in duets or groups of up to five. The judges then gave the performers some general evaluations and filled out forms ranking them from five, the highest, to one.
Many of the students, particularly the soloists, required accompanists, and frequently their music teachers served in that capacity. With students performing in any one of seven rooms, the accompanists were kept busy making sure they were ready when their students were required to perform, and a room runnning behind schedule could throw everything else off schedule.
This is the first year Rappahannock has hosted this annual event, and most participants were pleased with the way the day went. “I’m real pleased,” Ms. Whitford said as the afternoon performances were underway. By then all rooms were back on schedule. “I’ve had a lot of positive feedback,” she added.
