To the Editor:
The cartoon on the editoral page in the April 14th issue depicting a clown as the White House Health Plan and an unimpressed, uninsured patient in a hospital bed is indeed a sick joke.
Before President Clinton can even complete and present to the American people a national health plan, its phantom image is being belittled and attacked by the unenlightened who, like Don Quixote, mistakingly perceive windmills as evil giants to be slaughtered and wade blindly in, sword a-swinging. At least Don Quixote had high sentiments.
Have you ever held your screaming child in your arms so hot with fever you felt he/she would burn you and wondered what to do?
Have you ever suffered through an asthma attack without the medication you knew could be the difference between you surviving such and attack or not?
Have you ever awakened in the middle of the night with severe chest pain and shortness of breath knowing you should rush to the emergency room, but knew to do so and not be having a heart attack could cost you as much as a thousand dollars, anyway (6.6 percent of your annual salary if you make $7.20 an hour.) and to be right would wipe out your family assets for years to come.
