“From my Family’s Album”, by Rappahannock’s Julie Portman, will be presented at 8 a.m. at the Culpeper Middle School Forum on May 15. The fund-raiser, a two-part production based on Portman’s memories of her parents, Katie and Ronald, will benefit the Rappahannock-Rapidan Community Services Board’s aging programs.
“We chose this performance, partly because of the high quality of Julie’s work,” said Sallie Morgan, the director of Aging Services for the Board. “And partly because both these moving portraits of Julie’s parents draw attention to the themes that we struggle with each day: family dynamics, aging, and the resilience of the human spirit.”
Morgan noted that tickets for the benefit, which includes a dessert buffet, would be a good choice for a Mother’s Day present. “The portraits, while touching, are inspiring and upbeat,” said Morgan. “Julie takes an unflinching look at this extraordinary couple, but her memories are loving. She makes us think about what being a family really means. And proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit many aging mothers and fathers who are lonely, isolated, frail and hungry.”
